The Quiet Catalyst: Using DARN CATS to Turn Conversations into Change
This session explores how Human Resource professionals can better support mental health in the workplace by shifting from “fixing” to listening for change. Using the evoking stage of Motivational Interviewing (MI) as a guide, we’ll focus on the DARN-CATS framework — a practical way to recognize and respond to the language of change. You’ll learn how to identify both pre-commitment and action-oriented statements, reflect them back to build trust, and create a safe environment where individuals connect with their own reasons for growth. The tools you’ll take away can be used not only at work, but also at home and in any setting where meaningful change conversations happen.
When health coaching, Shane creates a safe, supportive space where you can clarify your values, set meaningful goals, and navigate obstacles with confidence. Using motivational interviewing and active listening, he helps you uncover the “why” behind your goals and craft a plan for lasting lifestyle changes. Shane’s coaching emphasizes progress over perfection, helping you stay engaged and empowered on your wellness journey.
